Friday 17th March
This week we have said goodbye and good luck to Mrs King who has gone on maternity leave - we are all looking forward to hearing the pitter patter of tiny feet! We have welcomed Mrs Ward who will be in school working alongside Mrs Westrup on a Wednesday, and taking the class on a Thursday and Friday. This week was also National Science Week so we did some exciting experiments involving ice!! Ask your child! There are also new pictures below so take a look! Mrs Westrup
Wednesday 8th March
A big thank-you to all of you who attended the SATs meeting for parents today. We hope that seeing your child's actual mock papers has helped you to know which areas they could do with some support in. Many parents commented that they were particularly surprised by the level of reading the children are expected to do - with this in mind please make sure that when you hear your child read you focus on their understanding, rather than whether or not they can read the words. This years SATs will take place in May so please avoid any family holidays during this time. If you have any questions please ask! Mrs Westrup
Monday 20th February
Welcome back to a new half term, we hope you have had a great week off! This half term's topic is London. We will be learning about London today through researching non-fiction in our English lessons, we will also be learning about the Great Fire of London in our topic in the afternoons. This term's science topic is materials which we will cover just before the Easter Hols.
This half term there will also be a parents meeting to explain to you what will be happening in May this year with regard to SATs - look out for a letter in the next week or so. It would be great to have as many adults there as possible. We did some mock SATs tests before half term and will be sharing the results of these with you too. Any questions please ask! Mrs Westrup
Tuesday 7th February
Please can you all start collecting cardboard boxes so that we can use them to make houses from the Great Fire of London for our new topic after half term! Thanks, Mrs Westrup
Monday 6th February
This week we will be doing some activities around safer internet day which is on Tuesday. Please talk to your child about staying safe online and reporting anything to you that they are unsure about. We will have a special assembly and I will add the powerpoint which we use to our webpage this week. Mrs Westrup
Wednesday 1st February
We had a number of children with missing bits of PE kit today! Please can you make sure that your child has a complete named kit in school - it makes it much easier when they all take off their kits and muddle them up! Thanks! Mrs Westrup
Tuesday 17th January
Welcome back to a new term! Christmas seems so long ago now but thank-you to all children and their families who sent Christmas cards/gifts/wishes to myself and Mrs King. We hope you had a good one too! 2017 is going to be an important year as the children in Year 2 have their SATs in May. Please avoid taking your child out of school if at all possible as we are working hard to prepare for these. There is going to be a parents meeting to explain it all to you...watch this space for a date in the near future! There are no changes to PE/spellings/homework days this term. Please continue to hear your child read at home regularly too...remember the children get a team point for each time they read at home! Mrs Westrup

Mrs Westrup
Tuesday 15th November
Thank-you so much to all the parents/grandparents/aunties and other family members who came and worked with the year 2 children this morning. We were overwhelmed with the response and the children really enjoyed working with you all! Take a look at the photographs in the English gallery below. Thank-you also for your feedback - we will consider this when planning our next workshop. I am hoping that we can run another one in the spring term. I hope that you found it useful in helping you understand ways you can help your child at home. Mrs Westrup
Monday 14th November
It's our reading activities workshop tomorrow! The children are really looking forward to working with some family members on the different activities! When you have dropped your child off at school make your way to the main entrance and sign in. You will then be directed to the hall and met by Mrs Crossland who will introduce the day. We will then come over once we have done the register. It should be a good workshop! Mrs Westrup
Tuesday 8th November
Reading workshop on Tuesday 15th November please send in your reply slips or jot us a note to say who will be coming - it would be great if every child has an adult to work with! Thank-you! Mrs Westrup
Monday 7th November
A little reminder that individual and sibling photographs will be taken on Wednesday this week. Remember to let us know if you would like your child to be photographed with a sibling as well as individually. Thank-you! Mrs Westrup
Wednesday 2nd November
Welcome back to a new half term! Thank-you to all parents who have made appointments for parents evening this week, it is great for Mrs King and I to meet you and discuss your child's achievements and next steps. We have noticed a change in the weather...winter is on its way! Please make sure that your child has an outdoor PE kit and trainers for using on the field as they are outside unless it is raining and the field is too slippery. The sports coaches will still take them outside on a dry but cold day! You should have received an email this week about an upcoming learning together workshop - we hope that you will be able to come and share some activities with your child, or nominate another adult to come in your place if you are not available. We look forward to a busy half term in the lead up to Christmas! Mrs Westrup
Tuesday 11th October
We have had a great day at Norwich Castle today! The children were stars and I was complimented on their behaviour by museum staff. They did us all proud! We took part in 3 activities and then had a short time exploring the castle keep after lunch. Take a look at the photographs in our gallery below! Mrs Westrup
Monday 10th October
Wow! 21/30 children got a team point today for getting 9/10 or 10/10 on their spelling test! Thats the highest amount so far this year! Well done to Daisy for getting a headteachers certificate for effort in assembly today! Just a quick reminder for our trip tomorrow - please wear uniform, bring packed lunch and drink (unless a school packed lunch has been requested) and wear a coat! We will be returning to school in good time for the end of the day. Mrs Westrup
Monday 3rd October
Another great swimming lesson today with great behaviour! Well done all! 17/30 children got a team point for their spellings today - thank-you for your support in helping your child to learn them! The class have been quite noisy this afternoon so tomorrow I will be looking to reward children who show me great listening skills...I know they can do it! This week we are doing science and learning about materials and their properties. See if your child can identify the materials that items in the home are made from! Mrs Westrup
Tuesday 27th September
We've had a great afternoon today building castles! Take a look at the pictures in the gallery below! More will be added of the finished products once the paint is dry! Wow! We had a great first swimming lesson today! The children were all brilliant and their behaviour was exceptional. Great job! Just a little reminder that the castle trip money needs to be paid by next Monday 3rd October - unfortunately the trip will not be able to go ahead if we do not get enough contributions. If your child has come home today saying they need cardboard boxes its because tomorrow they will be building castles - so send them in the morning if you have any! Thank-you! Mrs Westrup
Sunday 25th September
Just a little reminder its swimming tomorrow! Please make sure your child has a swimming costume, towel and swimming hat!

We had our first spelling test today and 15/30 children earned themselves a team point for getting 9/10 or 10/10! A great start - lets see if we can beat that next week! Last week the class did some amazing portraits of William the Conqueror using oil pastels! You can see them in our gallery below! Mrs Westrup
Tuesday 13th September
Today we have been learning about the Battle of Hastings! We acted out the story of the battle between 4 people who all wanted to be King of England after Edward the Confessor died. Check out our presentation in the gallery below! Also today the children have brought home their first spellings to learn for a test next Monday. Please check your child's book bag! Mrs Westrup
Monday 12th September
We had a great first week back last week and the children are starting to get used to the routines year 2 brings! They will bring home their first spellings to learn tomorrow alongside their weekly homework. In the homework if you find your child can already read the key words or knows the number facts feel free to extend them by getting them to put them into sentences, or maybe double all the answers in the maths part! It will be good to read your comments about how your child gets on. We do not expect the children to be able to do it all independently, they will need your help! Our first newsletter is now ready and is available to read at the bottom of this page - any questions please ask! Finally - well done to Ruben and Amelia who have been voted in by the rest of the class as school council reps! I am sure they will do a great job representing 2WK!
Mrs Westrup

Mrs King and I have been very busy planning lots of exciting things for this term. Our first topic is going to be castles which last years class really enjoyed, especially our trip to Norwich Castle which we are hoping will take place again this year mid-October. More details will follow! Over the next couple of weeks we will be updating this page with all the key dates and information you need to know e.g. PE days and homework so keep an eye on this page. You will also receive a class newsletter as soon as all the timetables have been done! I hope you have all had a refreshing, fun summer and are ready for the new term ahead! We will be working hard to ensure your children make great progress and look forward to working in partnership with you supporting your child at home.
See you on Monday! Mrs Westrup
